The acquisition of slope profile information is a vital requirement for slope stability modelling, and hence landslide risk mapping and planning. Working with the Ministry of Physical Planning, MoSSaiC has developed for Government a capability to automatically generate the slope profile from a transect drawn on a digital map. This facility enables the subsequent rapid assessment of slope stability to be undertaken .
Full integration with GPS data allows individual slope sections to be labelled with a range of attributes specific to that site, such as the key geotechnical, hydrological and bioengineering characteristics. An important attribute of this capability is that it allows a slope profile to be created and fed straight into slope stability software, thereby speeding up an important (and otherwise costly) element of data acquisition.
A full demonstration of this capability has been given in the Ministry of Physical Planning to staff both from that Ministry and the Ministry of Communications and Works.
