Open drain lining
Crack monitoring on structures
Piezometer installation
Low cost piezometer installation has been implemented by MoSSaiC on
road cut slopes. A power auger used in connection with piezometer tugging
provides a means of recording water table depth.
The installation has been completed by a MoSSaiC field team on selected road cut slopes and in urban areas it is planned that the piezometer readings are taken by Community residents.
Drain lining
A new design of an inexpensive and rapidly installed means of lining
small open drains is under development by MoSSaiC. Trials of this 'soft'
engineering approach are currently being undertaken in association with
the Poverty Reduction Fund, St Lucia.
Crack monitoring
An inexpensive way of determining the severity of cracks in buildings
can be undertaken using the Telltales illustrated below. MoSSaiC is
installing these in key buildings to help ascertain whether such cracks
are static, cyclic or progressive.
Indications of this form allow assessments to be made of the cause of cracking in structures and provide evidence of potential.
