Product: Materials inventory for St Lucia presented in an easily accessible standardised form. Collation and integration of all available based data overlays within Geographical Information Systems of relevance to landslide risk, and the identification of available software for future integrated data analysis.
In any analysis of slope stability that involves comparisons of relative stability the standardisation of information is an important component in correctly assigning appropriate material properties to specific sites.
MoSSaiC is currently compiling a materials inventory for St Lucia that will provide an accessible tabulation allowing the ready identification of material properties at first a coarse level, and then subsequently delivering increasingly specific ranges of values relating to such properties as hydraulic conductivity and standard geotechnical properties.
Additional to data standardisation in terms of materials inventory, MoSSaiC is collating existing information overlays that are available and held within Geographical Information System data bases. Such overlays and their intersections allow the identification of those zones most prone to slope stability risk or the identification of areas where for example the land-use is 'inappropriate' given topographic characteristics and soil type.
MoSSaiC has used such GIS derived data to identify two areas within St Lucia where it is most appropriate to start the field inventory teams in establishing the slope inventory to make initial assessments of the instability and consequence scores for slope sectors.
