To adequately undertake slope stability assessments a sound understanding of material properties is required. Typically such data are held in a variety of locations including Government Materials testing laboratories, consultants' reports and research funded programmes. Of great importance is the detailed knowledge of local government staff that will have had many years' experience in both site investigation, materials testing as well as knowledge of sites of slope failures.
MoSSaiC has collated and integrated materials properties for St Lucia and presented the results in a readily accessible tabulated form. This includes consolidated geotechnical and soil hydraulic conductiivity data. The aim is to constantly add and refine information on materials form the sources outlined above and have them available in terms of 6-8 readily identified weathering grades each with associated geotechnical and soil physics properties.
