Mapping capability
Establishing appropriate mapping platforms for both wide area
and detailed site appraisal is a vital element in analysis, presentation
and interpretation of slope stability assessment. There are 3 primary
levels of mapping information that need collation:
- GIS wide area maps and surveys
- Topographic mapping that facilitates the identification of highway
slope segments for generalised slope inventory purposes, stability
assessments and the mapping of results at a scale that permits the
easy appreciation of slope prioritisation
- Urban area mapping that facilitates the clear identification of
housing and drainage on urban slopes. This is especially important
for assessing low cost improvements that can be made in densely populated
urban areas to improve slope stability
MoSSaiC is working closely with the Poverty Reduction Fund and the
Ministry of Communications to establish appropriate links between mapping
resolution and community programmes for slope stability improvements.
