Landslide risk assessments

MoSSaiC is sourcing previous work on landslide risk undertaken in St Lucia to ensure that all previously available local knowledge is collated and made available and secondly used to guide the research design of the MoSSaiC programme.
For example, the work of Nicholas Emmanuel [Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, St Lucia] constructed a landslide risk map for the Castries basin using Geographical Information System [GIS] methods of data layer overlays and intersections:

MoSSaiC is now using this mapping as a guide in identifying specific locations for more detailed site investigation and analysis of slope stability within the communities of Castries. These analyses will ultimately assist in refining the nature of the GIS layers used for wide-area landslide risk mapping.
